How validation turns a molding process into a controlled, repeatable system

Why Qualification Comes First

Before a mold runs production, it has to prove it can consistently produce acceptable parts under defined conditions.

Qualification establishes that proof. It connects the machine, mold, material, and process into a single validated system that can be repeated on demand.

The Three Phases of Qualification

Performance Qualification (PQ)

PQ confirms the process performs consistently under normal production conditions.

A series of consecutive parts is produced at the defined settings, and critical dimensions are measured. Capability metrics like Cp and Cpk are calculated to confirm the process meets requirements.

This demonstrates that the process is not only capable, but repeatable over time.

From Validation to Production

Once PQ is complete, the process is locked.

Any change to parameters, material, or tooling must go through controlled review and, if necessary, revalidation. This prevents drift and keeps production aligned with the validated state.
