Aprios and Pacific Plastics Injection Molding (PPIM) have strengthened their capabilities through collaboration and shared resources, delivering significant benefits for both customers and employees. Since Aprios acquired PPIM at the end of 2018, customers have gained access to expanded plastic injection molding services and Custom Manufacturing Services, while PPIM employees look forward to participating in the employee stock ownership plan (ESOP). Together, Aprios and PPIM employ over 100 staff across facilities totaling 73,000 square feet.
Delivering small to large production runs of plastic injection molded and digitally manufactured parts, Aprios is headquartered in Minnesota, while PPIM operates in California. Both locations are strategic hubs for the medical device industry, providing Medical Injection Molding and ISO 13485 Injection Molding services to meet strict regulatory requirements.
As part of Aprios’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, a 390-ton electric press from the Minneapolis facility was installed at PPIM, increasing production capacity while supporting the initiative to be 70% electric by 2020. To meet customer-specific quality standards, PPIM’s spectrometer was relocated to Aprios, along with other equipment enhancements to support injection molding quality control and inspection and quality control in manufacturing.
Through Aprios’s Carbon Network Production Partnership, PPIM has completed Carbon training and now offers additive manufacturing services, including Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) and Carbon DLS Prototyping, enabling rapid prototyping and production flexibility for customers.
Both companies use the same enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, streamlining operations and management. Aprios also shares its expertise in 5S lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programs. Additionally, the Minneapolis facility provides cleanroom assembly and manufacturing, expanding Custom Injection Molding Solutions and medical device prototypes capabilities for both existing and new clients.
This collaboration highlights Aprios and PPIM’s commitment to providing high-quality, efficient, and scalable design and manufacturing services, supporting the growth of the medical device manufacturing industry.
